Murray has been writing songs for many years and attends Songwriting Circles and Workshops whenever he can. He has attended workshops given by some of North American leading songsmiths: Mary Gauthier, Dan Bern, Hayes Carll, Sam Baker, David Francey, Stephen Fearing, Wyatt Easterling, John Wort Hannam, Emily Triggs to name a few.
Murray recently performed Highway of Tears (with Emily Triggs and Natasha Sayer) a FAMI camp to great reviews. The song is about a stretch of Highway 16 West, between Prince George and Prince Rupert, defined as a "bleak ribbon of pavement bordered by shriveled black, red and grey pine trees standing like match sticks". From 1969 to 2006 nineteen young women went missing or were found murdered along this stretch of road – commonly referred to as the Highway of Tears. Listen to the Recording
